The 18 best cake shops and cake bakeries in Tempe (2024)

Sweet Dee's Bakeshop is an Old Town Scottsdale bakery dedicated to baking traditional and innovative treats that will leave you blissfully satisfied. From red velvet cupcakes to birthday cake doughnuts, the bakery has something for everyone. Plus, the browned butter cookie is a must-try!

Make sure to come here full cause if you are hungry and have a sweet tooth it could get dangerous. 🤪 Seriously some of the prettiest and most delicious deserts you might ever have. Today I planned on getting one item and walked out with 3. I purchased the Vegan Elderberry croissant, Chocolate croissant and the Munchies Cupcake. I loved them all but my favorite was the Elderberry Croissant. So flaky and scrumptious filling. You must check them out. If you love Macaroons, they have a bunch to choose from. They also have breakfast items, coffee, teas and more.

Came in with high expectations but it really wasn’t all that good. The macaroons were hollow on the inside and the cookies had more icing than cookie which is not what a cookie is supposed to be like, and the cookies didn’t have taste, it was definitely lacking vanilla and other flavor, not worth the $8. The chocolate croissant I got also barely had any chocolate and was very crumbly. My strawberry basil lemonade also tasted very bitter and the toasted marshmallow drink did not have any marshmallow taste. Very disappointed.

I was really disappointed with my experience at Sweet Dee's. I was really excited to see the bakery since I came upon the owner’s TikTok. When I walked in, the staff seemed more focused on chatting with a customer who had already been served, which made me feel like I was intruding. The 90s themed sweets I was excited to try turned out to be a letdown they were stale and dry. The Trolls vegan cupcake had no flavor and was really tough. Even the Lisa Frank coloring book was underwhelming; there weren't enough colors to even finish a corner of the image. The cookie was hard and tasteless too. Overall, it's sad to say my visit was pretty disappointing

I absolutely understand what the hype is about. These pastries are ridiculously delicious!!! Pricey ($5 per cinnamon role), but well worth it for that special occasion treat! If you have the opportunity to try the apple cider old fashion donut, do not pass it up - my new favorite donut for certain!

Simply the most delicious cake and sweets! We ordered a 2 tier cake with fire decorations, but didn’t want fondant. They delivered with these amazing spray painted flames that were insane! The vanilla and marble cake were simple flavors done well. The butter cream was decadent, but not overly sweet. It was a perfect cake. While picking up the cake we also got macaroons and a chocolate donut. Sweet Dees does all things sweet very well. If you’re in the neighborhood is a must go to for a coffee and a treat. If you’re throwing a party, go nowhere else for a cake! You will not be disappointed here!! I’m still drooling 🤤

We had a birthday celebration in AZ. I ordered a cake from Sweet Dee’s. It was the best gluten free cake we have ever tasted! Thank you Linda and Sweet Dee’s!!!

Dishonest owner!! I ordered a two tier cake to serve 8-10 people to celebrate my wedding anniversary in June 2022 (the wedding anniversary was on a Saturday and we had friends flying in from out of the town for the weekend). I had some email communication with the store, placed the order over the phone and prepaid $250 (cost of the cake + tip) on Tuesday (they made me prepay). I was going to pick up the cake Saturday at 2pm, but found out I had Covid that Thursday afternoon, I called them to have the cake order canceled, they cancelled the order but said they needed the owner to issue me a refund, so I left my number to have the owner call me back. The owner Lynda did not call me back until Friday 1pm or so, said the cake was already made and that they could not issue a refund, but she could put a note on my account to give me a $250 credit towards future purchase. I was so sick and did not want to argue. But I wondered how could the cake was made if I called on Thursday to cancel the order? Besides, the cake was due for pick up early Saturday afternoon, why would they make it on Friday already? I felt Lynda lied to me. It's been almost 1.5 years since this occurred, I never gotten the chance to go back to purchase anything that would cost $250, besides, because of what happened, I really do not wish to give them my business, but I do feel awful every time when I think about what happened, and I'll always remember this every year around the time of my wedding anniversary.

The CUTEST themed desserts are here at Sweet Dee's! We've been here plenty of times for the Star Wars drop they do every May. We had a pick up order ready this past weekend to get from Gilbert. The store itself is quite small so you have to wait a bit outside if it's busy, but it is VERY cute inside. They have some seating inside and out and I think a pick-up window during the summer months. The breakfast sandwiches are VERY good here and it's hard to order just ONE thing. Definitely worth coming by to pick up treats for the weekend or the fun events they do.

I highly recommend coming here. Great staff, good food! The young woman who served us was so friendly and helpful. I ordered the bagel & Lox, which she recommended. It was satisfying and came with an abundance of toppings. I also ordered a churro latte with oat milk. It was a tad too sweet for me but I don't like much sugar in any coffee. Their macarons are a generous size and very vibrant.

Tried the panini sandwich, which wasn't bad - maybe a little too grilled. The peppermint cocoa was delicious. The other items I brought home to try later. Store was decorated very nicely and if I drank coffee, the coffees had some adorable festive presentation. I was hoping the lunch was a little better to match the vibe of the store.

Lynda the owner said when I placed the order that my daughter's cake would look "exactly like the picture" I sent her. Just picked it up and obviously I was disappointed. Yes, the elements are there but it is NOT what I ordered. Now she's refusing to fix this problem, claiming "it's unethical to copy another cake and it was only used as inspiration." This is NOT what she said when she took my $200 to make this. Completely disappointed and dissatisfied!!! Do not get a nice custom cake from them.

Pretty cute place. We got the fruit tarts, cheese cake and macarons and they were all pretty good. Everything is very cute, the dessert case was lovely. The girls working there were very energetic and friendly and tried their best to accommodate our requests. The drinks there were nothing to special but still good. Overall it was a pretty good experience. If you want some tasty picturesque desserts then this is your place. However, if you're looking for gluten free this is not the place to go since they have a very small selection and it is not always available unless you order ahead

Such a cute bakery with fantastic service and great food/baked goodies! Maci was so sweet and made the best lavender oat latte! We got the breakfast sandwich, which was devine with the goat cheese and the Dee’s club with the BEST homemade potato chips. This will definitely be a staple when we visit Scottsdale again!

Ordered and paid in advance a month before a birthday for a cake. Called the day before to make sure all was in order and ready for pickup and they had no memory of my order, but said they could still finish it. Picked it up next day and the cake decorating was very nicely done. However, the cake was extremely dry (tasted aweek old) and had very little taste. The cake filling was also not correct.I called the next day to make sure I got the correct order. The lady who answered my call was very rude on the phone, stating my taste palette was “meant for a box cake and not from scratch”. And then proceeded to ask if I have ever made a cake. Overtly rude and unnecessary.I would suggest never ordering a custom cake from here for the flavor. A cake from the grocery store would be more moist than sweet Dee’s.

Cake: We ordered a vintage heart shaped cake for our courthouse elopement. We placed the order in person and provided several photo examples of what we were looking for, and I was sure I was going to get the wedding cake of my dreams but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. The cake looked alright, but major details that were asked for were missing even though they were included in the confirmation email sent to us. For example, we asked for “small pearls to the top center forming a heart” and this was missing. I specifically asked for small pearls because I don’t like the big ones and the confirmation email stated “pearls as details, small and large sizes” and yet we only had large ones on the cake. The decorations on the cake seem heavy handed and careless. Parts of it were already falling apart immediately upon delivery which was disappointing. It didn’t seem to have the clean, neat details that most vintage wedding cakes have. I am very thankful that this cake was only for us because I would be embarrassed if this was for an actual wedding reception. When the cake was cut open, the interior filling was very uneven and not great for photos, even though we emphasized that we were taking lots of photos of the cake when we were booking. The flavor of the cake was great, but unfortunately a bit dry. For $150 +tax, $50 delivery fee, plus a $40 tip, I would hope that we would get what we asked for and what was confirmed by them via email.Communication: They also emphasized that they would contact us one week prior to verify the details, and they failed to do so. I emailed them 6 days before the wedding and got no response. I called them 5 days before and they said “oh we saw your email.” Why wouldn’t you respond to the email to let me know you saw it and confirm the details there? I thought I wouldn’t have to do this since they were supposed to confirm with me, not us chasing them down.Ultimately we made the cake work because it’s not like we had any other option. I just wish they cared about this cake as much as we did. We picked this company because they are a woman owned, small business and I want them to succeed! But the little details matter and more attention should be paid.

Very cute bakery, the inside atmosphere is well done, unique, and inviting.I ordered a cake for my friends engagement party that was almost $200, the cake did not look good when picked up. The ring on the cake was not circular, the cursive was sloppy. When we asked for it to be fixed, they were unwilling to help or suggest anything to fix the issue. That being said, cake tasted great and the inside was beautiful! This bakery has so much potential and I was really disappointed by how the issue was handled.

So I ordered a cake for my best friends birthday I picked this place because the display cakes were complicated but looked amazing, the style I wanted was super simple so I figured if they can do difficult they can do simple. The flavor of the cake was great but honestly I can just let the inspo pic and what I got speak for itself. The wording was crooked and sloppy I could barely tell it was supposed to say “Aries” they added an extra ribbon of frosting on the top which would have been fine if it wasn’t so crooked, the black smudged when they were writing and lastly there was frosting all over the bows. When I saw the cake I was like…. Uhhh can we fix the smudge? I was just kind of surprised they were gonna hand it to me without saying anything or fixing it. She said they can either redecorate the whole cake (but at that point I no longer had time for that) or they could do a $10 refund… but the rest of the cake decoration was just a bit disappointing. If I order again I will make sure it’s done early enough that they have time to redo it if need be.

This bakeshop is unrivaled in Arizona! I visited specifically to place an order for a vegan vanilla + coconut birthday cake to celebrate my 23rd (Golden Year!) birthday, and I was absolutely astonished by the cake's stunning appearance and the meticulous attention to detail, including the use of gold glitter and ribbons. 💕😍😍The friendly staff went above and beyond to make me feel incredibly valued and cherished, and my family also fell in love with the cake. A heartfelt thank you forever for making the day so special!!! Will be back again soon!

I love to travel and find different dessert places to try. Found this one and excited that they had designs and fun themes. I saw reviews were mixed for custom orders/service but I never judge until I’ve experienced something myself. Customer service was great, they were very friendly and welcoming. Donut was amazing, soft and airy. I Would definitely recommend. Never had a crunchy macaron before..but the flavors were so good I didn’t mind. It Added texture, I liked it lol Cake was very moist, not too sweet and frosting was smooth/creamy. The pricing was reasonable for the quality. You can tell they put care and thought into each dessert. I’m looking forward to ordering a custom cake! 🩷

A small yet adorable bakery shop that offers seasonal goodies and treats. The staff was super friendly and the lemon ricotta cheesecake ridiculously delicious. This was our first stop on our Mystery Picnic Date through AmazingCo and really started us off on a good note!
