Jon, we suggest you install an automotive auxiliary input adapter. This aux input adapter will allow you to input any mp3 player, portable music player, Apple iPod or Apple iPhone into your factory stereo. This is the most cost effective and easiest way to add an audio input into your factory radio directly rather than over the air. Here is the adapter you will need:

Aux Input Adapter for 2004 Chevrolet Silverado

If you’ve never installed car audio before, we advise you to take your car to an experienced mobile audio installer. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2004 Chevrolet Silverado auxiliary input adapter install.

In your opinion where is the best or most convenient location to find and connect for the switched power source. I have a 2004 chevrolet silverado with no bose or on-star. Also I plan to use standard harness without connection for chime. also if you could tell me the exact sizes of speakers in the front and rear. I have been getting different info on what is in my 2004 chevrolet silverado truck.

James, first double check ALL your fuses and make sure ALL your fuses are good. You can do this by using an Automotive Fuse Tester and making sure all of your fuses are not blown. If all of your fuses are good, your 2004 Chevrolet Silverado may have a factory amp that needs to be turned on by your after market radio. The car radio amplifier trigger wire has to be wired up to turn on your factory amplifier to output sound from your speakers. We currently do not have any information on the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado amplifier turn-on wire but hopefully someone from our Modified Life community would be able to chime in and help you out.

Hello I’m installing Sony head unit on my 2004 chevrolet silverado. I bought a connector to make the job easier but the unit will accept a CD but won’t turn on, I’m thinking it has something to do with a switched power source? Any help would be great thanks.

I’m trying to locate the exact wire that runs to the center console’s sub mounted in the front, up where you cannot see or access it. I want to tap into the wires for that sub to run to another amp with my own sub, but to access and even see that speaker would require cutting the truck in half, I believe.
Anyone know what color wires runs this sub so I can tap it, and where in the center amp area there is a hot wire that I could connect that amp to that would turn it on when I crank or the truck accessory is on, just like that inside amp? HELP…lol. Thanks.

John, there is an adapter that allows you to use the AUX input on a factory 2004 GMC Sierra stereo to connect your Apple iPod. The adapter uses the socket where the CD Changer harness is plugged into. Here is the Apple iPod adapter harness you need:

I have a 2004 GMC Sierra with stock Bose deck, stock 6 disc changer and XM radio. There is an AUX button for selection. Is there any kit that would allow for a IPOD connection to be installed on the factory deck?

David, unfortunately there is no wiring adapter that is specifically made for a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado to hook up to a specific Pioneer radio. Installing a radio with an after market wiring adapter is a simple process. Here is the radio wiring adapter you need:

2004 Chevrolet Silverado Radio Wiring Adapter

This wiring adapter will be colored coded to the same colors on your Pioneer stereo. Just match up the colors and connect the wires via wire connectors. The connections shouldn’t take you longer than 15 minutes. Then plug and play. Hope this helps. Good luck with your radio installation.

Victor, the wire you used is the constant wire which stays powered all the time. Use the pink wire in the ignition switch harness located in the steering column. This is a switched source and will turn off when the ignition is in the off position. Hope this helps. Good luck with your amplifier installation.

Jett, technically you could connect your 2004 Chevrolet Silverado amplifier turn on wire to the radio switched 12v+ wire. That way your amplifier is on whenever your Chevrolet Silverado is on and off whenever your 2004 Chevrolet Silverado is off. Just make sure to run an in-line fuse holder with a 1-amp fuse on the amplifier turn on wire. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

I am installing my amp and subs from my old truck into my 04 Silverado. I am using a line out converter to keep my factory deck, because I dont want to mess with the stereo controls in an aftermarket stereo. My question is what do I need to patch my turn on wire from my amp into?

Ernie, unfortunately we don’t have the specific information you’re looking for but maybe someone from the Modified Life community can post that information here. What we can tell you is most radios in late model vehicles have a power or volume knob that is integrated into the factory radio and cannot be removed by pulling it off the radio. Hope this helps. Good luck.

The black paint on the radio’s on/off and volume control has worn off. I thought I could just pull the knob off and replace it with a new one, but I could not pull it off. In addition, I was told by the local sound shop that the knob is not replaceable (it’s part of the radio).

    What do you suggest?
